Pinterest and Tailwind for Marketing your Business

As an artist and business owner, many things have been invaluable to me while saving time and my sanity.  Today I thought I would talk about Pinterest Marketing and, more specifically, how Tailwind can help with marketing. So let’s begin.

Some of the things that I mention are affiliate links, which means that I will get a small commission if you purchase through my link at no cost to you.

Let me start by reminding you about Pinterest.

Pinterest began in January 2010 and started as a place for people to organize things that they want to keep track of in a digital way. In the early days, you had to have an invite to join Pinterest. Does anybody remember that? I remember my sister and I thought it was the best thing ever and a huge step up from tearing recipes, inspirational quotes, or cute hair cuts out of magazines for our scrapbooks.

According to Forbes, Pinterest was worth $1.45 Billion in 2020; it is projected to continue to grow to $ 3.5 by 2023.

If you are interested, I also found an article about its early humble beginnings to how it turned into what it is today.

One more thing about Pinterest before I move on to Tailwind is that I have had two Zoom meetings with a Pinterest marketing representative where we talked about changes that I could make to my pins to make them stand out. For instance, she recommended that I have my logo and a CTA on my pins to get more engagement with my audience. A week later, I had a follow-up email with her team leader to ask if I need help with anything.

The takeaway from this? Pinterest wants small business owners on their platform. We make them money, and they will provide education in exchange for that money, which is a win-win!

Marketing with Tailwind

How does Tailwind factor into the story, and why it’s such a timesaver?

If you are interested in looking into Pinterest marketing, then look no further than Tailwind! It will make suggestions for you about how to set up your Pinterest account. Let you know if you need to add descriptions to your boards or add more pins to your boards and so much more. Let’s dig in!

1. Tailwind Communities and how they work.

  • There are niche communities that you can join. The communities usually have rules; for instance, you share your pins for the community to pin. They expect you also to pin someone else’s pin. This has been an excellent way for me to get my pins noticed and circulated with minimal effort on my part.
  • You start by joining five communities, but you can “powerup” and join more if you want to. I haven’t done this yet, but I may in the future.
  • There is also the ability to start your own community and invite people to join.
  • The interface is straightforward and keeps track of how many groups you are in and how many pins you have contributed and shared from your communities.
  • If this sounds intimidating to you, don’t worry! They have video training for everything, and if you ever come across something that you don’t know how to do, they have friendly and responsive customer service.

This article is a great resource for how to start, build, and grow your community.

2. There is a publisher section, and here is what it can do.

  • It shows you everything you have scheduled for the week to pin your pins and the pins you have planned for your community groups. It also offers you an alert if any pins have failed to post.
  • There is something called Smart Loops where you add your pins and create a “loop” for instance, I have a loop called Art Prints and another one called Alcohol ink Art, and my evergreen posts will continue to run every week throughout the year unless I turn them off. If you don’t want to schedule evergreen content, there is also an option to do timed, seasonal posts with a start and end date.

Here is an article for a more in-depth look at Smart Loops and how they work.

3. Look at analytics.

  • There is a way to monitor which boards and pins are performing well and which ones are underperforming so that you can make adjustments as needed.
  • It will tell you how much traffic Pinterest has brought to your website.
  • It will also let you know if anyone has saved or shared your pins.
  • You can see organic activity and referral traffic (through google analytics)
  • That is why Tailwind is such a great tool to help with Pinterest marketing.

4. I saved my favorite feature for last “Tailwind Creates”.

  • Here is where you can save your logo and brand colors
  • Then click start a new design.
  • There is the ability to search for beautiful stock photography or add your photos.
  • You can link a blog post or product page, and it will populate photos from your website and from there, you can enter a title and CTA and then watch as it creates beautiful pins that you can share at the end of blog posts or pin to your boards.
  • You do not need special design skills or any other templates! It’s a one-stop-shop. Yay!
  • There is the ability to edit the design if you want to, but if not, just add your keyword-rich description and a few hashtags, and you are finished.

Another great article about how Tailwind and Pinterest work together.

A final note about Tailwind is that it’s not just for Pinterest. I use it for  Instagram posts, too, with an option to also post for Facebook. I can save hashtags, see how my grid will look, and Tailwind gives me prompts and ideas to post if I feel stuck about what to write.

There is a separate app for posting to Instagram, and I was a Beta member of the app. It performed very well, and I was pleased with the ease of use, and I have no issues posting from it. There is an option to auto-post or set a reminder to post when you want to manually.

Now you know a few reasons why I love Pinterest in general and Tailwind in specific to help market and grow your online business.

If you have any questions or information that I didn’t address, leave them in the comments below. I would love to hear from you!

Hi, friends!

First off, if we are going to be friends you should get to know me a little better. I’m Amelia Mabry, a mixed media artist from Northwest Arkansas where I live with my husband and two teenage sons.

I love the movement and flow of alcohol inks, their vibrant colors help me to capture the beauty of nature that is an endless inspiration to me. My hope for this space is that the words that I write and art that I create can be an inspiration for you too!
